Well, it is easier to perform the piercing with receiving tubes, and corks are unsafe and uncomfortable for this type of piercing. Instead of trying to maneuver the needles in to the cork and potentially create scarring on your customer, getting a cork stuck up their nose, and possibly pricking yourself with a used needle, instead a tube and cot is safer and easier. A finger cot rolled over the end of the receiving tube helps minimize these problems. With the cot in place, the tube is inserted into the nasal cavity. When the nose is pierced the needle then travels through the cot, partially into the tube. Then, of course, the jewelry is followed by the needle, and the needle is held in place by the cot. Please refer the picture below to see how the needle sits after the piercing is performed.
